Hello!
I am very excited to be able to share with you our finalised storyline overview! We wrote up a blurb that would go on the back of our DVD and in information about our film and then have written up an overview of the whole story of our film. I will now show you this document and then explain and analyse our choices.
The main character we chose was a female teenage girl. This is because 70% of people we surveyed chose that their preferred main character was a teenager. We found that this was the favourite option because our target audience is 16-25 females. Therefore, the younger people in our audience wanted a teenager because they would relate to the character and therefore connect with the characters and the film more, which would make them enjoy the film and the genre more. Also, the older people that would watch our film will be more connected with the film because we believe when you bring a child or a teenager in to a film and in to a tragedy, surrounded by family it is terrifying for the older viewers and really makes them connect.
20% of people surveyed said they wanted prisoner and a victim, which was the second voted for. Because of this we decided to interpret these characters in to our film. We decided to make the main character the victim and make the story line focus around the actions of a prisoner.
When surveyed, 'murder', 'prison', and 'suicide' got the most votes for the storyline, suicide just topping the votes. Therefore we decided to focus the story line around all three things, with the climax being the suicide factor.
Lastly, when interviewed 50% of people wanted a happy ending. However, although first agreeing with this, we then realised that if we wanted a tragic film, a happy ending could not happen. When we looked at the questionnaire results again, we realised that the votes for a sad ending were only 10% less. Therefore, we decided that it would only be best to go for a sad ending. However, we didn't want to rule our our audience. Therefore, we decided to make some aspects of the ending very sad and tragic, however end it with a sort of cliff hanger so they don't really know the ending and also so that the ending doesn't have to end sad.
When making our film there were a few strengths and weaknesses.
The main weakness came when we discovered that we had previously made the ending of our story happy. Our original story ended with the father being arrested and the main character in her house with her family round the fire. However, having learnt more about our genre since then, we realised that this didn't fit. This caused us a lot of stress. We knew that this was a big loss of time and was disappointing how we had to change the storyline that we were so proud of. However, we overcame that quickly because we planned a time to sit together and change the ending without affecting the rest of our production. Therefore, we were able to look again at the questionnaire results and write another ending. In the end, we actually preferred our new ending and managed not to lose too much time.
The main strength of our storyline was team work. We worked as a team to look at our audience interviews and surveys and decide upon an effective storyline that our audience wanted and managed to fit in something that everyone voted for, which is a massive strength for our team and our film.
See you soon!
