Story Board

Hello!

From my last blog you will know that I have been working on our groups story board and it is finally completed! For the story board I focused on the main object or subject involved in the shot and didn't focus too much on background. This is because it won't matter what the background is and we will not interfere with the natural backgrounds as our genre, tragedy, is all about real life and making the viewers able to relate to the character, setting ect. Also, I had to put two drawings for some of the shots, this is because there is a specific movement of the camera or of the action that could not be captured with just one drawing.

Unfortunately, I'm not a very good artist and therefore, I realised that although the drawings may make sense to me, the whole team and actors have to be able to read and understand this story board. Therefore I decided to add little post-it notes to add analysis on to each shot/drawing.

On these analysis, the first thing I included was the Shot number, this is mostly for the editor and camera team's use as these shot numbers will match up to labelled shots on the computer. Next I added the angle of the shot, this is also mainly for the camera crew as it is very hard to capture the angle when drawing (especially if you are not very good at it!!),. So by adding this, it is very clear for the camera crew who have to film the shot. Next I wrote the visual, this is what is seen on screen in the shot. This is important for the actors and camera crew as it is impossible to draw every single movement and visual that will be on screen. Therefore by writing what will be happening in the shot, the actors know how to act the shot and the camera crew know what they are looking to film. Next I labelled the actor(s) in each shot, this is for the whole crew and it mainly for organisational purposes. Next I included costumes for each shot, this is for the actor(s) so they know exactly what they will be wearing and also for the director of costume so that they can ensure that each actor is wearing the right thing for each shot. Next I included the time, which is how long each shot will last. This is mainly for the editor so that when they are editing the clips, they will know how long to crop each clip. Next I added the audio as this is also impossible to capture on a drawing, this is for the editors and sound crew mainly as it is their job to record and add the sound in each clip. Next is lighting, this is mainly for the camera crew and editors as they will be he ones in charge of capturing the lighting. And lastly is the props which is mainly for an organisational purpose.

The last thing we did was put a black boarder round the first and last shot and put black arrows around the board. This is so the other members of the crew looking at the board will understand how it works and where it starts and finishes. This is important because I am the one who did the story board and therefore the other members of the crew will not know straight away where each shot goes and how the sequence follows on.

I will now add pictures of the story board that was completed over two sheets of A3 paper:

Production Schedule

Hello!

Over the past few days I have been planning our filming days. To do this I used exel to create a spreadsheet including the following information: Title, Date, Location, Director, Crew, Weather, Shot number, Angle, Visual, Audio, Actors, Time and Props.

I will now insert a picture of our plan for the first filming day and explain it:

As you can see our first filming day is called "Main Character Shots", this is because we will be taking all of the shots of the main character that will feature in the opening credits of our film. We will be taking 19 different shots, 10 in one location and 9 in another. The first location we will go to is the Old Railway station in Buckingham. Here we will be taking different shots of our main character in a forest type location.
The first two shots we take are both straight shots. These are two simple shots of the character walking down the path of the forest, one from behind the character and one from in front. This will be a match on action shot as it is two shots from different of the same action, just from different angles.
The next two shots are shots of the character walking up steps. The first is a shot where the camera is looking up at the character. The camera will be at the bottom of the steps, low on the ground, whilst the character is half way up the steps, walking. The next shot is a low shot, tracking the characters feet walking up the steps, the camera will stay stable whilst tracking the feet.
The next three shots are shots of the character on the bridge. The first shot is a shot of the character walking on to the bridge and then stopping in the middle of it to look out. This will be a straight angle. The next shot in this section will be looking out from the bridge as the character's eyes. The camera will do a view of 180 degrees wide and also look up at the trees, therefore an all angle shot. The last shot will be from above the character, however not directly. The cameraman will be on a hill, therefore looking diagonally down on the character walking off of the bridge.
The last three shots are the character preparing to hang herself. The first shot is a low shot. It will be a shot of the character's feet stepping up on the a log. The second will be a shot of the school tie hanging on a thick branch of a tree, this will be a straight shot. The last shot will also be a straight shot, and will show the character's face looking through the loop of the tie.
All of the shots will have an audio of birds and wind. We chose this audio because the wind will set the weather. Our film is set in winter, therefore the wind will be very high. We also want to add in the bird sounds as we feel like this is a sound of freedom, which represents our character wanting to end their life. She is scared and feels betrayed and therefore wants to be free.
These shots will all last 5 seconds and will each have a different credit on each.

The second location we will go to is Chandos Park, also in Buckingham. Here we will take different shots of the characters at many different types of location.
The first three shots will be focused around a river. These shots are in a shot, reverse, shot structure. The first shot will have an angle of looking up. This shot will be a shot of the character, towering over the camera. In this shot, the camera will be acting as the river. The audio we will use for this is water rippling, so it feels like the camera is in the river/is the river. The second shot will be looking down at the river, where the characters face will show in the reflection. For this we will use wind and river ripples for the audio, so that we still hear the river however can hear the wind to as we are out of the river. The third shot will go back to the first to finish off the shot, reverse, shot. However, this time the character will close her eyes and then walk away. In this section, the first two shots will be 3 seconds and the third will be 5 seconds, this is because in the third shot, the character needs time to do exactly as they did in the first shot, and then walk away.
The next two shots use a swing as a prop. The first is a straight shot from the side of the character who is sat on a swing gently swinging, this shot will last 3 seconds. The second shot will also be straight, however it will be behind the character, showing two swings. The character will be on the right swing, this time swinging more, but still low. This shot will last 5 seconds as the character is actually swing and so needs time to go up and down. Both of these shots will have audio of the swing creaking, as this sound is very daunting and will help to build tension.
The next three shots will be filmed at a near by bridge, just outside of Chandos. The first will be a shot looking up at the character who is stood on top of a tall bridge, looking forward. This shot will have a wind audio as the camera will be able to see no cars on the road under the bridge. The next shot will be a straight shot where the cameraman is on the bridge, looking at the character from a side profile. This will show the character either sat on the edge of the bridge or looking over the bridge, hanging their head over the edge, however this will depend on the weather as either could be dangerous. This shot will have the audio as wind and cars. These first two shots will last 3 seconds. The this shot will be high up and will shot the town from the character's eyes, the camera will do a 180 degree turn to show the view that the character was seeing from the top of the bridge. Because of the action, this shot will be 5 seconds and will have the same audio as the second.
The last shot will be a shot of the side of the character's face. The character will have a single tear running down her face and there will be fog from the character's cold breath. This shot has the aim to show emotion and setting (weather).
All shots from this day will have the actor Ellie Bacon featured.

Here is a picture of our plan for the second day of filming with explanation:

This day of filming is called "House Shots". This is because it will be shots from the house location in Maids Moreton, Buckingham.
The first shot will be a tracking shot, although the camera will stay stable. The cameraman will be on the floor so the angle will be low. The shot will shot the character run out of the front door and the front door slam. Although the camera will only show the character's feet and the bottom of the door. The camera will then turn left and watch the feet run down the path. For this shot, it will be 3 seconds and the audio will be the steps of the character. The actor will be Ellie Bacon.
The second shot will be a shot of the other two characters in our film opening. The angle will be straight and will show the character's sat at the table. The camera will show their side profiles and they will both have their elbows on the table with their face in their hands. On the table will be various police letters and pictures. This shot will last 3 seconds and the actors will be Louise Parry and Phil Smith. The audio will be a sobbing noise from the female.
The third shot will be a high shot. The camera will be above the table that will have the police letters and pictures on it. The camera will slowly zoom in on the items that will be on the table. This shot will be for 5 seconds and will have the same audio as the shot before. A bit of the character's arms and heads may show, therefore the actors have to be named: Louise Parry and Phil Smith.
The next shot will be a straight shot and will be the same shot as the second shot, however the male character will be supporting the female character with his arm round her. Their faces will still be in their hands and the audio will still be sobbing. This shot will last 3 seconds.
The next 4 shots will focus on the stairs. For the first shot, the cameraman will be on the floor and therefore the angle will be low. The shot will show the female character getting up and walking out of the kitchen door toward the stairs. This will last 3 seconds and the only audio will be the chair moving.
The next shot will be a behind shoulder shot, the camera will be a shot from behind the female character's shoulder and will be looking up the stairs. The audio will be the character shouting "Annie", this will last 3 seconds. The next shot will be from up the stairs, looking down on the character, again shouting "Annie", this time a little louder. The last shot will be a straight shot and it will be from just inside the kitchen door. It will show the female character suddenly turning her head to the right, looking  directly down the camera with a shocked face. This will also last 3 seconds. All of these shots will remain to feature the character's Louise Parry and Phil Smith.

The shots will not be featured in this order, however you can see the order of the shots in our opening's story board that I hope to get up after christmas. Unfortunately, our main actor has a lot of time on at work and therefore we have not been able to decide upon days to film yet, however we hope to decide this in the near future.

You will also be able to see all of our shots analysed in more detail and information such as why we chose these shots and their locations, also the angles and timing in our shot list that will be uploaded in the next week or so. Also our locations analysed in more detail in our location plan that will also be uploaded in the next week or so.

Our Story!

Hello!

I am very excited to be able to share with you our finalised storyline overview! We wrote up a blurb that would go on the back of our DVD and in information about our film and then have written up an overview of the whole story of our film. I will now show you this document and then explain and analyse our choices.

The main character we chose was a female teenage girl. This is because 70% of people we surveyed chose that their preferred main character was a teenager. We found that this was the favourite option because our target audience is 16-25 females. Therefore, the younger people in our audience wanted a teenager because they would relate to the character and therefore connect with the characters and the film more, which would make them enjoy the film and the genre more. Also, the older people that would watch our film will be more connected with the film because we believe when you bring a child or a teenager in to a film and in to a tragedy, surrounded by family it is terrifying for the older viewers and really makes them connect.
20% of people surveyed said they wanted prisoner and a victim, which was the second voted for. Because of this we decided to interpret these characters in to our film. We decided to make the main character the victim and make the story line focus around the actions of a prisoner.
When surveyed, 'murder', 'prison', and 'suicide' got the most votes for the storyline, suicide just topping the votes. Therefore we decided to focus the story line around all three things, with the climax being the suicide factor.
Lastly, when interviewed 50% of people wanted a happy ending. However, although first agreeing with this, we then realised that if we wanted a tragic film, a happy ending could not happen. When we looked at the questionnaire results again, we realised that the votes for a sad ending were only 10% less. Therefore, we decided that it would only be best to go for a sad ending. However, we didn't want to rule our our audience. Therefore, we decided to make some aspects of the ending very sad and tragic, however end it with a sort of cliff hanger so they don't really know the ending and also so that the ending doesn't have to end sad.

When making our film there were a few strengths and weaknesses.
The main weakness came when we discovered that we had previously made the ending of our story happy. Our original story ended with the father being arrested and the main character in her house with her family round the fire. However, having learnt more about our genre since then, we realised that this didn't fit. This caused us a lot of stress. We knew that this was a big loss of time and was disappointing how we had to change the storyline that we were so proud of. However, we overcame that quickly because we planned a time to sit together and change the ending without affecting the rest of our production. Therefore, we were able to look again at the questionnaire results and write another ending. In the end, we actually preferred our new ending and managed not to lose too much time.
The main strength of our storyline was team work. We worked as a team to look at our audience interviews and surveys and decide upon an effective storyline that our audience wanted and managed to fit in something that everyone voted for, which is a massive strength for our team and our film.

Mood Boards

Hello!

When making a film, one of the most important things is understanding your chosen genre. We have done a lot of genre research but to understand it further we decided to explore our genre in a different form. We thought a visual representation would be best, so we decided upon a mood board. We created two mood boards, one is about our genre as a whole, and one is about our opening.

This one is the Tragedy Genre mood board:

For the genre we focused on films in this genre, common characters, settings, camera angles, emotions and things that represent and relate to the genre.
For example, bottom left we have a picture of a family being torn apart. This is to show that tragedy films usually focus around a family. The tear in the picture is to represent that the story line is usually something to do with a tragedy within a normal family, causing the family to fall apart or be torn apart.
The first picture on the top left is a picture of the film 'Titanic'. This is one of the most popular and most famous tragedy films. Joining this is the front cover of the films 'Romeo and Juiliet', 'Reign Over Me' and 'World Trade Center'. We have also included the front cover of the first ever tragedy film 'Romance of a Jewess'.
For settings we have included a picture of a town, a normal family house and a hospital bed. These are three very popular settings that are regularly seen within the genre.
We have four different camera angles on our mood board. We can see an over shoulder shot at the bottom of the mood board, these are generally used to show the emotion and reactions of the characters, allowing us to connect with them. Next to this is a close up shot of a character, generally used again, to show the emotion of the character and allowing us to connect with them. Above this is a head and shoulders shot which helps to show the emotion of the characters through body language and facial expressions. And lastly on the left hand side of the story board, we can see a character sat on a bench. These shots of wide setting are regularly used to show loneliness, stress and isolation.
Joining this we have two pictures of eyes with tears in them. This is to represent the sad and dark feel of the films and show that generally the story lines are very sad and hurtful.
Lastly we have a picture of a 'real life' sign and a 'tragedy' mask. These represent the films as most tragedy films are based around real life events, such as 'World Trade Center' and 'Titanic'. The tragedy mask is the symbol of tragedy films in drama.

This is our second mood board of our opening:

For our film we focused of important props, costumes, settings and potential shots that we wish to capture and include.
Firstly lets look at settings. We chose pictures of possible shots and settings that we want to include in our fim. The first main setting is a forest. We have four shots of forest settings that we know we could capture in the area that we are filming in. The first one is bottom left and it is a shot of wet steps in a forest. We originally wanted a shot like this and this picture really shows the potential we were hoping for. We have also got two pictures of a walkway in a wet forest, one with a person walking far away alone the path. And lastly a log which we will need to use for the storyline in our opening. We chose a forest as it is usually a very scary and daunting time, especially when it's rainy and wet. Also, it is very effective to show iscolation and loneliness.
Another setting we have captured is a town environment and a family home, which we can see at the bottom and top of the mood board. We want our film to be set in a town and house as this is a very popular setting in tragedy films and it is what our audience chose.
Also, we have three pictures capturing the costumes we wish our main character to wear. One of the pictures is a pair of ugg boots, which are everyday boots that teenage girls wear in the winter. Secondly a black coat that is an everyday wear coat, and lastly a picture of a teenager in hat and gloves. These pictures capture the setting of our film which is going to be in the winter, a very dark and cold feel. Also, the clothes are every day clothes which are very common in tragedy films as it makes the viewers connect with the characters even more because they can relate with them.
Next we included three very important props that we will be using. The noose at the bottom of the page and the tie in the second row are connected. This is because our character uses their school tie as a noose. The school tie also helps to capture the costume of the main character. Secondly is a candle. For the setting of the family home, when filming in there we want to make it quite dark but a warm, homely feel. This is because the usual situation of the house is very homely, but the situation has put a very dark twist on the family. Also, candles are usually often with death and daunting things. For example, they are featured in horror films a lot.

We feel that these mood boards really help us to understand the genre better and explain our opening very well. In the next blog post, you will find the overview plan of our film!

See you soon.

Roles Allocated

Hello!

Within the past week our teacher gave us the task of researching and allocating different roles within our team in order to be organised and produce our final product successfully.

To do this we set out a grid with all the different roles that we needed for our project. We then did a bit of research on what the roles were and the responsibilities that each role would have. We then decided upon a person for each role and wrote a short summary of why.
Attached below is a picture of this document:

I think that the progress we have recently made has really helped us to get a finer sight of our film and has given us even more ideas on the specific details. We are happy with our choice of roles and feel much more organised with our work.

Credits Timeline

Hello!

As the making of our final film is drawing closer, we have been looking at a lot of drama openings. One of the things we will have to focus on is the credits, as these come in the opening of films. Therefore, our teacher set us the task of creating a credits time line. To do this, we looked at two film openings and noted down what credit comes up and at what time.

The first film opening we looked at was 'The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo". We found that this film had a lot of opening credits that flashed up very fast. The pattern was the important people came up first, followed by a list of actors, then came the different producers and designers, then the last credit was the director's name who came up again. One thing that we found interesting was that the Director didn't only come up twice but he had a gap of 13 seconds before his name came up. We think this is because the audience will then focus on this name and the director is one of the most important people in the film so this is very important.
Here is the timeline we created:

For our opening, we won't need as many credits as this. Therefore, we decided to look at another opening will less credits. For this second timeline, we chose the film 'Cyber Bully'. For this, there were a lot less credits, however it followed the same sort of pattern. The most important people were first, followed by a list of minor actors, followed by the producers and designers and the director's name only came up once but it was also at the end.
Here is the second timeline:

We think we will follow this pattern for our opening, however we will take some credits from the first timeline to add in. Such as the Production Company and Studio Name.

Genre Documentary!

Hello!

A few weeks ago we were set the task by our teacher to research our genre and present the information in a documentary. We were half way through creating our first documentary when we realised that the genre we had chosen probably wasn't the genre for us. Therefore, we had a meeting to discuss this problem and decided to change our genre to tragedy drama. This meant we had to start research and a new documentary again. We found it hard to fit this in because we had so much other work to do in media and were being given new information each lesson. However, we finally found the time and have now completed out documentary, here it is!

I hope you like it as much as I do!

Tragedy Drama - Genre Features

Hello!

I am now able to present to you our research on our genre; tragedy drama!

The first thing we looked at was the overview of features. Obviously, there are a lot of features in a tragedy drama, so we chose six subheading that we thought were most important and useful to research. These were: Camera Angles, Lighting, Props, Main Characters, Costume and Narrative.

The next thing we looked at was popular actors/actresses and directors. We thought this was important as we need to know what's popular in this genre, as the most successful and popular actors and directors will be what our audience want. We found six popular actors/actresses and identified a list of films that they had featured in. We then chose three random ones and watched the opening of one of the films we had identified. We did this to get a feel for our genre and the rough outline of things the audience want. We then repeater this for directors.

Thirdly, we looked at the very first film which was "Romance of a Jewess". The reason we did this is that we belive it is important to look at where this genre has come from and the changes and improvements that the genre has gone through.

I will now attatch pictures of this work so you can see our research:

The next blog post will be our documentary on this research and information that we are very excited to publish!

Tragedy Drama - Film Features

Hello!

We decided to research a bit about films like ours and look at the different features to see what we liked or disliked. To do this we chose to watch two tragedy film openings and make notes on the camera angles, mise-en-scene and editing techniques and identified what we wanted to borrow, change or throw away.

The first film we chose was Titanic. For camera angles, we found a lot that we could use. We identified three main camera angles used and decided that they would all be great for our opening in order to create the mood for our film. For mise-en-scene we found also found a couple of things we can use to help build sympathy for the viewers on the characters and situation. Lastly, for Editing Techniques, we only found one thing that we can use, which will also help us to create the mood of the situation. I will now attach a picture of our 'Film Grid' for this film that explains this work in more detail:

The second film we chose was Cyber Bully. For camera angles, we found two ideas that we want to use, one that was not included in the last film. We want to use this in order to held our audience connect with the characters and become aware of the character's emotions. For mise-en-scene we found also two ideas that we want to use, again one that was not included in the last film. We want to use this in order to create an opportunity for the viewers to connect and relate to the characters. Finally, we found another two things that we would like to use however we have decided to change them a little to fit our film. I will now attach a picture of our 'Film Grid' for this film:

We have also started looking more at our genre as a whole and have done research on the overview of features in a tragedy film, popular actors and directors within the genre, the first ever tragedy film made and a timeline of the genre. I hope to get this up in the next few days!

See you soon.

Target Audience Profile

Hello!

As you probably know by now, we hit a big brick wall in our recent planning stage when we started to interview our target audience. We found that our original target of males was not correct, therefore we needed to switch to females, which has a massive effect on our ideas. We originally created a 'Target Audience Profile' about a male called James. With our target changing we needed to create a new profile which we have now completed.
Firstly we looked back at our notes from our Target Audience Profile lesson that I will upload a picture of here:

We then looked back at our old target audience profile and looked at the things that could be kept and the things that needed changing. We found that most of Emily's lifestyle is very similar to James', however has a big difference in meaning and affect as things affect females differently to males. Also, looking back on James' profile, we realise that many of his traits, with a little tweak here and there, are actually likely to be traits of a female. We think this is because we are a group of four girls, and although we had the basis of a female audience, we chose a male basis, then built female aspects.
Here is the new audience profile of Emily:

Emily is a 19-year-old female. She lives on campus in a room with her friend Lily at Warwick University studying Business. She came here from Milton Keynes college where she studied 4 A-Levels: Business, Media, English and Psychology. She has a part time job in Michael Kors, working three evenings a week. She is currently single and enjoying University life although is interested in males.
Emily spends most of her days revising, however she does allow herself time to hang out with her friends and have some time to herself. She goes home every other weekend to visit her family in Milton Keynes. Her family is large and are very family orientated, caring a lot for each other. This is very important to Emily and she makes sure she always has time for them. When she is in Warwick and has spare days, she enjoys spending time with her friends. They often go out in Warwick in the day to do activities such as shopping and going to the cinema. She hates antisocial people and loves a bit of drama and gossip. She likes to think of herself as a fashionable modern girl. She is a mainstreamer, meaning she shops in all the big brands. At night time, she often goes out for a meal with her friends, usually picking salads, pastas and fish dishes. She would never go for a big meaty meal and hates most vegetables.
In 10 years time, Emily hopes to be high up in a retail business, preferably in the fashion sector. Her goals are to climb up in a retail business to eventually become the boss and then start her own business. Her dreams outside work are to make a good amount of money, settle down with someone and start a family. She also would like to do a bit of travelling when she meets her husband. After University, she would like to stay at home for a few more years until she finds a boy and settles down with him. She then wants to move out of her family home and in with her boyfriend/fiancĂ© somewhere near Milton Keynes so she isn’t too far from her family.
Emily has a TV in her University flat and loves to watch all the big programmes. Her favourites are Holby City, Hollyoaks, Broadchurch and The Vampire Diaries. She also loves films and takes recent trips to the cinema, trying to see all of the currents films with her friends. However, her favourite genre is drama and romance. She loves films about families as they suit her for all genres. In happy films, it makes her like it as she is a family orientated person and so she enjoys watching happy families, and in sad or scary films she enjoys it because it gives her the sympathy and fright even more as she thinks about her own family. She loves the actor Julianna Margulies and always sees the films she is in. In terms of music, she is very up to date. She follows the charts and her favourite artist is Ellie Gouding, her favourite band is The 1975.

Our next step is to learn more about out genre. We hope to research our genre and create a documentary on this in the near future. We also want to look at openings of films in our genre and evaluate the different aspects, finding things that can be borrowed and improved.

Evaluation So Far - Final Film

Hello!

We have completed the evaluation of our progress and planning so far. To do this we split it down in to three questions that we asked ourselves. 1. "What did you learn?" 2. "What surprised you?" 3. "How will you use this in your production". Here is our response:

Part 1 - What we learnt:

The first thing we learnt was that females are more likely to watch a tragedy drama, therefore we only listened to what the females were saying which changed our plans and ideas dramatically.
We learnt that most people we interviewed would prefer a female main character. However, two people said male, therefore we will include a few male characters in the main story line, and base it around the female. Also, out of the people we surveyed, 70% said they wanted a teenager to be a main character. Therefore we will definitely make the main character a teenager. We will also include a victim and a prisoner as they had 10% votes each and we are able to include these characters.
Also, we learnt that the people we interviewed all wanted the film to be set in a small town that’s a real life experience. We think that this would be a good setting because a tragedy drama has to build sympathy for the viewers. Therefore, we are happy with the setting that the audience want.
When we surveyed people, we included the question “What would you prefer the storyline to focus on in a drama film?” The responses were quite equal apart from one, crime solving. 40% chose suicide, 30% said prison and 25% said murder. Therefore, we will include all of these aspects in our storyline, making suicide the main aspect that the story is based around.
We learnt that most of the people we interviewed and spoke to only go to the cinema once of twice a month. This is mostly because of the expense and the other options that there now are such as free streaming. To get around this we will not put our film through the cinema. Instead, we will release it on DVD as a limited edition for a month to get our viewers hooked and make them go out and buy it. Then, after another month we will release it on to free streaming companies.
The last things we learnt is that drama is a very popular genre with our audience. And in drama, tragedy is the favourite subgenre, which is a massive relief.

Part 2 - What surprised us:
The biggest surprise to us is our audience’s cinema habits. We all enjoy going to the cinema and think that once or twice a month was surprising.
The other surprise we had was again, the target audience. We were set on males and had written up a ‘Target Audience Profile’ that we thought was perfect for our movie. However, it just shows how important research is because we were totally wrong! It seems that females would prefer our film much more! Now we look back over our film ideas, this makes sense. In our interviews and questionnaire we found that females wanted it set in a real life situation with a female main character their age. This is because females are much more effected with emotions and therefore would be much more interested in a dramatic, saddening tragic film where they can place themselves as the character and be moved by the film. It is understandable that females and much more likely to want to be moved by a film than males.

Part 3 - How we will use this in our production:
The first thing we changed is our target market, originally we thought males would be more likely to watch a tragedy drama because although they don’t get involved in every day drama as much as females, they prefer eery films that involve a big blow. However, we found out that females would be more likely to watch them as they prefer sad films and it would affect them more.
The second change is our male character. We had planned from the start to have a female character. However, when it came to surveying our audience, although females got the most votes, a male main character was also popular among a particular group of people. As film producers, we want to ensure we suit as much as the female gender as possible. Therefore, we decided to keep our main character as a female, however we have made the male character more of a big character who plays more alongside the main female character and is featured a lot in the film and is a huge part of the story line.
The final main change we have made is the plot line. We originally wanted the plot to be about a prison break. However, when surveying and interviewing our audience, we could that many of them would prefer things like murder and suicide and much deeper things. Therefore, we decided that we would keep a prison break as a part of the story line, however focus it around suicide and incorporate murder. This has dramatically changed our plot line.

Our next step is create a new Target Audience Profile for our new and improved target audience: females!

See you soon!
